Aerovironment Inc (AVAV) soaring

Aerovironment Inc. (AVAV) which develops and produces small unmanned aircraft systems is soaring today up over 10.00 %.  FusionIQ subscribers received this email on Thursday July 3rd  before todays pop.  Guess it pays to be a subscriber !!

Anyway the story for AVAV is as follows:   The company has beat earnings estimates the last six quarters and the unmanned aircraft systems are expected to receive more and more funding as part of the new defense budget so growth expectations for AVAV are probably too conservative.  In fact Defense Secretary Robert Gates recently stated that Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can give ground commanders instantaneous information about what they’re facing.  He also stated  I have taken a special interest in UAVs, because they are ideal for many of today's tasks in today’s wars. They give troops the tremendous advantage of seeing full-motion, real-time, streaming video over a target, such as an insurgent planting an IED on a street corner.  This language clearly supports he is behind increasing the budget for these strategic surveillance tools.

With a point and figure target of $ 50.50 and insiders controlling close to 40% of the float AVAV looks to offer good upside potential.  We would suggest setting a stop loss commensurate with your personal risk tolerance.

Software Strong - BMC reports good earnings is ORCL next ?
A few days back BMC Software (BMC) reported earnings that bested analyst expectations.  Today it was Oracles (ORCL) turn to have a strong day as shares rose bucking the rest of the weak tech sector.  The strength was attributed to Barron's which cited that CEO Larry Ellison's acquisition strategy is working and maybe not fully valued by the street.  With a 100 Technical score with and an 83 Master score we certainly concur with Barron's that ORCL looks strong here and offers an attractive stock in an attractive sector (software)

Revisiting an April Post - Inc. (SOHU)
On April 24th we highlighted Sohu Inc. (SOHU), a Chinese internet portal which was experiencing rapid growth tied in part to the upcoming Chinese Olympics.  We cited a report out that China's that its fast-growing population of Internet users has soared to 221 million, tying the United States for the largest number of people online, according to government data reported Thursday.  This was a 61 percent increase over the 137 million Internet users reported by the government at the start of 2007.  We then suggested this explosive growth would continue to drive growth expectation for SOHU for some time.  Also at the time we cited its new FusionIQ timing BUY and 98 Technical Score and suggested shares looked attractive to new buyers.
SOHU's price on April 24th was in the high $ 50's.  Yesterday as seen in the chart below SOHU closed at $ 82.20.

Ryland Group (RYL) - Has this homebuilder bottomed ?

There has been a lot of banter among institutional investors lately about the homebuilders potentially bottoming.  While this may be the case based on the massive amounts or short interest and improvement of news flow it may not align with the longer-term macro issues facing the builders.  However it does not mean there can’t be a strong rally given the temporary reprieve of bad news flow and the aggressive short interest.  That said we examine RYL in this blog post with some technical work.

As seen presently RYL is testing a down trend line in tact since the 2005 peaks.

We remain technically Neutral on RYL shares pending the breakout of this downtrend, though we do recognize the chart set up as potentially bullish (waiting confirmation of the trend line break).
